I need to leave the library for a few mintues. Is it safe to leave my backpack/laptop/purse in the library?

No, please watch your valuables. Do not leave books, purses, backpacks, or any other personal items unattended. They may be stolen.

If you left an item at the library by accident, ask the staff at the check out desk by the library's enterance if someone has turned in your item. Unclaimed items are given to Campus Police.

In order to prevent the theft of books and library materials, state law authorizes the detention for a reasonable period of any person using these facilities suspected of committing “library theft” (penal code section 490.5).
